Celebrate #MothersDayAtHome in Cambridge this year

Posted on Monday May 04, 2020

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and just because we’re physical distancing doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate.

The City’s #RecFromHome team has created a series of Mother’s Day gift and craft ideas for kids. The handmade gift activities include natural art projects with items from the backyard and a colouring page.

For Cambridge youth, there is a photo submission contest running on their Instagram page for a chance to win a $25 gift card. Find all activities listed at www.cambridge.ca/recfromhome.

“This year, mothers are busier than ever juggling the demands of navigating this pandemic with online schooling of their children,” reminds Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “From moms working the frontlines and those working from home, to moms struggling with financial uncertainty or worried about a family member due to the impacts COVID-19, the pressure has never been higher. As well there are many grandmothers who will not get to see their kids and grandkids this year.”

With the City’s #OrderFromHome campaign, it’s easy to buy gifts or gift cards from your favourite local stores that are offering online and contact- free customer service options. Many of the downtown shops are delivering beautiful Mother’s Day care packages and unique gift ideas

For a special Mother’s Day meal, many Cambridge restaurants remain open for takeout and delivery. Find our restaurant map and a list of local stores at www.investcambridge.ca/orderfromhome.

Mother’s Day is often a time when we reflect on those we’ve lost. We know that many people will be visiting city cemeteries at this time and we want to ensure that these visits happen safely. We urge visitors to keep COVID-19 precautions in mind and attend the cemetery in groups no larger than five people. Please also maintain physical distancing from others who are visiting or plan your visit on another day to limit the numbers of visitors at once.
