Just in time for the leaves falling outside, residents can enjoy our refreshed living wall at City Hall!

Over the summer, staff worked with an external service provider to replace the wall and plants that had deteriorated past their lifespan.

Originally created during construction of the building in 2008, the living wall is a key component of the building’s Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. LEED provides a framework for buildings that are healthy, efficient and provide cost-savings.

The living wall also provides many health benefits, such as humidification in the winter, improved air quality, and reduced noise pollution. The City encourages residents to come experience this unique feature at City Hall Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cambridge City Council approved this project as part of the 2022 capital budget process at a cost of $254,500.
