Cambridge City Council has approved the Parks Master Plan, which will shape the future of the City’s many parks, outdoor spaces, and trails for the next three decades.

“We need to ensure there are parks to serve our growing and changing population. It’s so important that residents have access to spaces where they can be outside, stay active and nurture their physical and mental well-being,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “The Parks Master Plan reinforces the City’s commitment to providing green spaces for residents of all ages to enjoy.”

The Parks Master Plan provides the City’s Infrastructure Services Division with a framework to guide the development and maintenance of neighbourhood and community parks, sports fields, amenities, and natural areas over the next 30 years. The plan includes feedback and priorities of residents, brought forward through two years of public consultation and engagement. It outlines development opportunities, sets standards and service levels, recommends ways to increase accessibility, identifies underserviced areas, and proposes updates to maintenance practices.

“Thanks to public input, the Parks Master Plan highlights potential capital investments in the things people want to see in their community park. Things like dog parks, pickleball courts, washrooms, playgrounds, and amenities for all ages, especially teens and older adults,” said Mike Hausser, Director of Operations, Infrastructure Services.

The plan also provides recommendations to meet the challenges of an expected 47% increase in population by 2055, and supports the City’s Strategic Plan - Cambridge Connected with the creation of sustainable, welcoming green spaces that enhance livability and support future growth in our community.
