Leaf collection - sustainable options for your property
There are several great ways to manage leaves on your property that can benefit both you and the environment.
You can bag your leaves for the Region of Waterloo’s yard waste collection program, which runs until November 22. You may also choose to leave the leaves on your property, compost or mulch them. These options help provide shelter in the winter for pollinators and enrich the soil on your property.
The City’s leaf collection program begins November 11. Be sure to check your collection dates if you plan to rake your leaves roadside and only rake leaves roadside just before your scheduled pick-up. This will help to prevent the creation of unnecessary obstructions in the roadway. Check your collection date.
As a reminder, keeping storm drains clear of leaves and debris ensures the safety of both the community and City crews. Please ensure that piles do not contain sticks or general waste, and keep children safely back from roadside leaf piles.
