In order to adhere to guidelines on public gatherings and as a result of rising COVID numbers in the province and regionally, the City of Cambridge, along with the volunteer committees for the Hespeler Santa Claus Parade, and the Cambridge Santa Claus Parade have made the decision to cancel this year’s parades.

“The Santa Claus parades are long-standing traditions in Cambridge and I know that much effort has gone into finding alternate solutions, so it really saddens me to announce that the parades won’t be happening this year. I know we will all miss these much loved events,” said Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “The decision was not made lightly but the safety of the community must come first.”

To celebrate previous years’ parades, the City will be encouraging community members to share some of their favourite memories of past parades on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. The campaign will get underway on Friday, November 27 and last until Sunday, December 6, and participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #santaparadememories.  Prizes will be awarded for Most Creative and Most Nostalgic photos.

City staff worked closely with the volunteer committees over the last few months to consider modified options for this year’s parades. The City continues to explore ways to deliver modified holiday events and celebrations to the community. Please stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
