Looking for a City of Cambridge program or service? Just ask Google or Alexa

Service Cambridge adds smart home voice capability to connect residents to their local government

Cambridge, ON, June 17, 2022: As part of its commitment to providing accessible customer service for residents, the City of Cambridge has partnered with Qwhery to bring city program and service information to smart home devices.

The Service Cambridge Voice and Chat Service allows residents to access city related information and frequently asked questions any time of day through their own smart home devices.

Residents can use voice commands or a chatbot interface to access city related information like who their Councillor is, find the nearest recreation facility or how to pay a parking ticket. The Service Cambridge Voice and Chat Service is available through the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa Marketplace. If using Google, simply say, “Hey Google, talk to Service Cambridge" or if using Alexa, enable the service in the Alexa app settings and then say “Alexa, open Service Cambridge."

The Service Cambridge Voice and Chat Service is part of a coordinated system that uses open data to ensure city services are accessible via a variety of methods, including in-person, web, emails, phone calls, social media, and more. This system will continue to evolve as data gets added in response to ongoing customer service feedback.

This initiative is part of the City’s commitment to delivering accessible, diverse, inclusive services, programs and infrastructure for all ages and abilities.

For more information on how to access this service, residents can visit Service Cambridge and view the instructional video.
