City to mark official transfer of ownership for Blair Cemetery
Cambridge, Ontario – After overseeing the care of the Blair Cemetery for the last 60 years, the Chislette family has asked the City of Cambridge to take over ownership of this historic cemetery. This occasion will be marked with a ceremony at the Blair Cemetery.
When: Monday, July 15, 2024 | 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Where: 2 Ashton St, Cambridge. Street parking is available on Ashton St. Please see attached map for cemetery entrance.
Photo Op/Media availability: Mayor, Jan Liggett will provide remarks beginning at 9 a.m. Also on hand will be Oscar Ribeiro, Manager of Operations Cemeteries, and Harry Chislette, Blair Cemetery Trustee. An Archival display of some of the site’s historic features will be available.
Notable Information:
- First recorded burial was in 1804
- The cemetery was first recognized by the trustees of the Village of Blair in 1889
- Burial location of Claudette Millar, Cambridge’s first mayor
