City celebrates accomplishments with 2024 Year in Review
The City of Cambridge is happy to share its 2024 Year in Review, which highlights the City’s achievements over the past year.
“2024 was a year of growth in Cambridge from breaking ground on the Preston Aud and Recreation Complex, and grand opening of the Soccer Complex to bringing community together at the bigger than ever Winterfest celebrations,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “Cambridge has continued to create active spaces and events that foster community for residents. City Council and I look forward to continuing to work with staff to enhance and build on all that was achieved in 2024 and continue to make Cambridge a place where everyone belongs. These achievements have brought a sense of community pride which is reflected in the many comments and emails received by staff and the Mayor and Council office.”
2024 marked the first year of the City’s three-year Strategic Plan – Cambridge Connected and its goals of People, Place and Prosperity. Here are a few of the ways the City of Cambridge worked towards those goals in 2024:
- Broke ground on the expansion of the Preston Auditorium and the construction of the Cambridge Recreation Complex.
- Celebrated the official opening of the Soccer Complex on Linden Drive.
- The Activities Guide returned to printed format for the first time since 2020.
- The Arts and Culture Action Plan was approved.
- 103 businesses were created or expanded through our Small Business Centre.
- Opened a new pedestrian underpass on Beverly Street.
- Cambridge Fire Department hosted more than 400 public education events.
- $13.3M in funding was received through the Housing Accelerator Fund.
- $4.4M in funding was received through the Building Faster Fund.
- The Cambridge Fire Department received over $48K in funding to support cancer prevention initiatives.
“Every day over 1,000 City employees work hard to improve the quality of life for Cambridge residents,” said City Manager, David Calder. “You may not see the employees, but you see their work in the winter when you drive down a freshy plowed street, in the spring when you admire the flowers in a city planted garden, when you sit in the grandstand at a baseball game or concert in the park on a summer evening, and when the leaves are collected from your curb in the fall. I’m proud of all our staff for their dedication and commitment to deliver quality service.”
