In recognition of World Cleanup Day, Cambridge City Council is excited to lead a Community Clean-Up this Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. Residents are encouraged to come out and join the clean-up.

Councillors and staff will be at four of Cambridge’s parks: Churchill Park (255 Water St. South), Forbes Park (31 Kris St.), Riverside Park (49 King St. W), and Soper Park (98 Shade St., meet at Galt Arena Gardens). They will be setting up a table at each location, where they will provide garbage bags, pickers, and gloves to volunteers.

Volunteers can clean in any of the four parks. After they’ve finished, they are asked to leave their provided trash bags in a visible location in the park (i.e., along a path). City staff will be coming through the parks throughout the day to pick up trash bags promptly.

“Cambridge is lucky to have an exceptional number of beautiful parks, trails, and accessible natural spaces, as a result of combining three communities and the village of Blair,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “Cleaning up our parks together shows care for the environment around us, and it’s a great way to have the community connect to and spend time in the city’s natural spaces.”

“Clean-up events remind us of our shared responsibility in taking care of our environment,” said Paul Willms, sustainability planner for the City of Cambridge. “Though it may seem small, every bit makes an impact, and together we make a visible difference in these parks.”
