Investor relations focus of successful mission to Europe

Mayors’ delegation explores thriving international business partnerships

Cambridge, Ontario. (November 24, 2023) – Last week, Mayor of Cambridge, Jan Liggett along with City Manager David Calder, and Waterloo EDC President & CEO Tony LaMantia as part of a delegation of regional mayors and chair, led a successful five-day mission to Germany, Switzerland and France with a mandate of encouraging new investments, fostering international ties and strengthening economic partnerships.

The visit aimed to showcase the vibrant business landscape in Cambridge and the Waterloo Region, with Mayor Liggett’s visits focused on key companies that have strategically chosen Cambridge as a base for their North American operations and have made significant investments in our community, including Beckhoff Automation, Bessey Tools, Bock, Septodont, OVH Cloud and Desch. The mission also included meetings with owners and executives from some of the world’s largest manufacturing and automotive companies as well as the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Furth, Deputy Mayor of Arnsberg, and Member of European Parliament, Dr. Peter Liese to discuss industry and trade.

These interactions provided valuable insights into the mutually beneficial relationships that have flourished, contributing to job creation and economic development in the region.

These missions help raise the profile of Cambridge and Waterloo Region to the rest of the world.”

Missions of this sort are integral in maintaining strong business relationships and attracting new investment, especially at a time when EV supply chains and mega-investments are re-shaping manufacturing and industry around the world. This diplomatic initiative also underscores the significance of global collaboration in driving economic growth and innovation.
