Posted on Wednesday February 26, 2025

The City of Cambridge is cancelling the current Snow Event effective 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. The on-street parking ban will be lifted once the Snow Event is cancelled.

The declared Significant Weather Event (SWE) will remain in effect. The City declared an SWE on Feb. 15 based on accumulated snow and credible forecast information. The SWE has remained in place since to allow City staff the extra time required to service roads, sidewalks, and laneways to reach a point when normal operations can resume. Our crews continue to work around the clock on snow clearing operations across the city. This includes working to widen roads that have been narrowed by snowbanks, improve sightlines and address large snowbanks at intersections across the city.

Parked cars are still the main obstacle for crews trying to complete snow removal. While the parking ban will be lifted once the Snow Event is cancelled, please keep parked cars off city streets as much as possible to help us continue snow clearing as effectively and efficiently as possible. You may see temporary No Parking signs in certain neighbourhoods that still need to be cleared. We appreciate you working with us to keep parked cars off necessary streets as we work!

While the Significant Weather Event remains active, we urge all residents to take extra precautions when using roads, sidewalks and walkways. The snow accumulation is significant and some surfaces and pathways remain constrained, slippery, or blocked. Sightlines at intersections, driveways, and pedestrian crossings may also be constrained. Please take all precautions before proceeding onto a roadway or crossing a driveway. Please wait 36 hours after the SWE has ended to report any uncleared sidewalks.

With warmer temperatures and rain in the forecast, localized flooding should be expected on roads since many catch basins are covered with snow and sidewalks bordered by snowbanks are slower to drain. Temperature fluctuations also impact asphalt on our roads, creating potholes. As we continue to respond to the snow that has accumulated this season and especially recently, we are committing as many resources as possible to snow clearing. This means we may not be able to repair potholes as quickly as usual. We will continue to monitor and assess potholes on our streets and prioritize repairs based on the highest need. Even if we can’t repair a pothole right away, we record every reported pothole to address as part of our ongoing maintenance program.
