On-Road Cycling

>

The City recognizes the importance of cycling as a mode of transportation and a means of active living that provides health, environmental and economic benefits to individuals and the community as a whole. The City will support and encourage infrastructure, services and programs that will create a bicycle-friendly community for those who live, work and play in Cambridge.

The benefits of cycling are significant to individuals, our community and the environment. Cycling is an enjoyable, efficient, affordable, healthy, sociable, quiet and a non-polluting form of transportation.

The Transportation Engineering Section is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all on-road cycling facilities on City streets including signs and markings.

The City currently maintains 230km of on-road cycling facilities. These facilities come in the form of bike lanes, paved shoulders, wide-shared use lanes and signed routes. There are also 50km of natural and urban off-road trails, 18km of which are along the picturesque Speed and Grand Rivers.

The City of Cambridge Bikeway Network Master Plan enables and supports cycling in Cambridge and incorporates direction for future routes, end of trip facilities, promotion and education.

For further information regarding on-road cycling in Cambridge, please contact Jason Leach, Senior Transportation Engineering Technologist at 519-621-0740x 4268 or e-mail cycling@cambridge.ca.
