The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer
Jim King, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), is responsible to City Council for the general management of the civic administration and the conduct of the business affairs of the Corporation.
The City's Management Committee (Department Heads and the Mayor), which is chaired by the CAO, is responsible for making recommendations to City Council with respect to the formulation, analysis and implementation of policies and programs. The Chief Administrative Officer has specific responsibilities in respect of financial, personnel and property matters.
Mr. King has extensive knowledge of the corporation and has served the City for over three decades. Since 1976, his roles have given him a variety of high level experience in a multitude of departments. Most recently, Commissioner of Community Services, Mr. King directed one of the City's largest departments. He recently led the Leisure Services and Facilities Master Plan update which sets the direction for the corporation over the next 20 years. A graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts, Mr. King holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario.
Active in the community, Mr. King was a member of the Society of Directors of Municipal Recreation of Ontario; the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association; and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators where he served as President in 1984/85. He is past Chair of the Cambridge/North Dumfries United Way fundraising campaign and has also served as a Member of the Board for the Cambridge Y.M.C.A and Can-Amera Games.
