CITY-WIDE LOOSE LEAF COLLECTION BEGINS NOVEMBER 7, 2011
Last year, The City of Cambridge refined the Loose Leaf Collection program to elminimate zones and rotational schedules to simplify the process for you.
*On November 7th, City of Cambridge crews will start an extensive loose leaf collection in the city.
Please ensure that your leaves are raked to the curb/roadside just prior to when collection begins on November 7. Remember, kids are tempted to play in the leaves, so please ensure their safety by telling them NOT to play in the roadside leaf piles.
Please leave storm sewer grates uncovered. Kindly ensure the leaves are stored on the road as close to the curb as possible, and where there are no curbs kindly store the leaves on the road at the edge of the asphalt.
Please do not put sticks, branches, other materials and/or general debris in the leaf piles as they may damage our equipment, causing delays or injury to our work crews. Note: bagged leaves will not be accepted.
This year City crews will initiate loose leaf pick-up ON THE SAME DATE FOR ALL AREAS THROUGHOUT CAMBRIDGE.
Please have your leaves raked to the curb just prior to the start date of November 7, 2011. We appreciate your co-operation to meet this important date which we hope enhances our services to you. Please continue to rake your leaves to the curb/roadside after the above deadline date only if crews have not yet been around your street for pick-up.
In the event that you miss this year's loose leaf pick-up - please take your yard waste to the landfill site located at the end of Savage Drive between 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
For further information, please call the City of Cambridge Public Works Division at (519)621-0740 between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY LEAF DISPOSAL ALTERNATIVES
Mulching and composting are the most economical and environmentally beneficial methods to deal with collected leaves.
Collected leaves can be slowly added to your home compost. They break down into useful organic material that can be added to home landscaping projects.
Mulching leaves with a lawn mower or other device will reduce the volume of the leaf pile for home storage or composting. Also simply mowing your leaves, in a dry condition, right on the lawn will add the organic material directly to your lawns.
Leaves, although bulky when first raked, will compost well over winter. To the extent possible, please compost leaves at home. Make sure the leaves are moist. It also helps to mix in some fruit and vegetable scraps.

You may wish to take advantage of the Region of Waterloo's Yard Waste Collection Program (Regional yard waste collection takes place every 2nd week until mid November) Visit Region of Waterloo Yard Waste for the collection schedule
