Mechanical Division
The Cambridge Fire Department Mechanical Division, under the direction of the Chief Mechanical Officer, provides 10 hour service 7 days a week, as well as emergency coverage at night. The firefighter/mechanic responds as a firefighter with our Tanker from Station 1 to areas without hydrant services or when additional manpower is required at an incident. This Division is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of all emergency firefighting apparatus and related equipment. Other programs and services provided include:
- Research and development of apparatus specifications to ensure all legislative requirements are followed
- Pre-delivery inspections
- Annual testing of Aerial ladders and ground ladders, pump operations and vehicle safety inspections
- Preventative maintenance programs and records
- Specialized repair and maintenance of S.C.B.A compressors and air quality tests
- Fire hose repair
- Repair and distribution of equipment
- Repair and maintenance of portable pumps, smoke ejector fans, nozzles, portable and fixed generators, emergency lighting, rescue tools, etc.
- Station maintenance
- Medical oxygen bottles refilled and records maintained
- Parts inventory for preventative maintenance and S.C.B.A. repairs
