Cambridge Fire Department operates, through Waterloo Regional Police, with a PERS (Public Emergency Reporting Service) 911 system to provide automatic number and address information (ANI ALI) drop to the dispatcher handling the emergency.
When you dial 911 in the City of Cambridge your call is routed to the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) Communications Centre on Maple Grove Road in Cambridge. There the call will be re-routed to the appropriate agency, and depending upon the type of emergency, will be routed to the Cambridge Fire Department accordingly.
Cambridge has affiliation with the National Emergency Number Association and supports the idea that one emergency number (911) throughout Canada and United States is in the best interest of everyone. When seconds count... dial 911.
Fact... the adult human brain can only survive for 4 to 6 minute
without oxygen
Fact... the size of a fire roughly doubles every minute during the first few minutes.
Fact... your chances of surviving a fire decrease dramatically the longer you are exposed to smoke and heat.
Fact... In any emergency, getting help is critical and time is precious.
911 is designed to save you precious seconds in an emergency, but
911 can only save precious seconds if we can find your house in an emergency.
Can your house / business number be seen from the road?
If your address is on your mailbox, can it be seen clearly from the road?
Can your house / business number be seen at night from the road?
If you live in a rural area is your "MUNICIPAL NUMBER" visible from the road?
Please make sure that we can find your house in an emergency, at anytime, day or night. If your house is not easily seen from the road, send someone to the curb to direct emergency crews in, or flash your porch lights to attract the attention of responding personnel.
In an emergency, call 911, but please make sure we can find you. Seconds do count!
