Our Common Future
Developed by a broad spectrum of people in our community, Our Common Future is a blueprint for the future of Cambridge. It outlines our goals, provides strategies for attaining these goals, and identifies benchmarks to let us know how we're progressing.
Over 600 Cambridge residents, community groups and businesses shared their opinions through the process. Our Common Future is the result of information gathered through extensive public meetings, surveys and phone-in shows. It's a thorough review of the opinions, concerns and priorities of the residents of Cambridge.
Our Common Future is a strategic plan developed "by us, for us". But this cooperative community effort needs your involvement. There are many important roles you can play to help Cambridge achieve its full potential. Pick a course of action. We all have a place here ... and we all have a role. You can make a difference!

Our Common Future represents a vision for Cambridge in the 21st century. To put that vision into words, a volunteer community task force distilled months of input into a simple, guiding statement....
Our Goals
Our Common Future has identified seven primary goals to ensure the health and prosperity of Cambridge into the next century. There are many things to be done and there are many ways to get involved.
Improve Cambridge's economy.
You can help! Support Cambridge's businesses to create jobs and opportunity. If you own a business, tell Cambridge what you can deliver and then deliver what you promise.
Preserve, protect and enhance the natural environment.
You can help! Get together with others to clean up part of our river trail system. Promote car pooling and biking. Conserve resources. Cut back on water usage and waste. Recycle.
Ensure people want to live in and visit Cambridge.
You can help! Be an ambassador. Encourage and welcome visitors. Participate in our community's festivals and special events. Enjoy and protect our Riverbank Trails. Rediscover Cambridge.
Build volunteerism and leadership.
You can help! Involve youth in decision-making. After all, they are our future! Join a service club or community group. Find ways to thank our volunteers for their efforts.
Strengthen community social services.
You can help! Tell your Neighbourhood Association or the Social Planning Council about the services you require. Participate in public input sessions. Offer your knowledge, expertise or just plain hard work. Call Information Cambridge at 740-3030 for information on just about anything.
Encourage community partnerships.
You can help! Team up with other Cambridge businesses. Talk about trends and possibilities. Build relationships with other community organizations and discuss the possibility of becoming partners on a new project.
Sustain and improve existing infrastructure.
You can help! Share your ideas about what you'd like to see in the core areas. Attend a public planning meeting. Talk to your city councillor about local services.
