Highway 401 Pedestrian Bridge
A brand new pedestrian and cycling bridge, linking the Trans Canada Trail between Cambridge and Kitchener, was officially inaugurated on Sunday, October 21, 2007. The $1.7million construction cost was funded equally by the Region of Waterloo, the City of Cambridge, and the City of Kitchener, along with a $100,000 grant from the Trans Canada Trail organization.
The 101.5 m wide bridge features a spectacular enclosed arched canopy that was designed in consultation with the community, as well as local professionals. A team of experts in the fields of architecture, art, engineering and landscaping were assembled to ensure a safe, sound, and visually appealing structure.
