Main Street Streetscape Plan and Urban Design Guidelines

The goal of the Main Street Streetscape Plan and Urban Design Guidelines project is to realize the beauty and significant heritage context of Main Street in Galt, Cambridge through a comprehensive urban design and streetscape strategy.



The project will help in
  • elevating the cultural heritage and built form of the street
  • developing an urban design approach that is rooted in the past but reflects contemporary life
  • focus on simple high quality materials that highlight the existing character
  • develop a streetscape plan that will guide Main Street reconstruction over the long-term


A public open house related to the Main Street Streetscaping Plan and the Main Street Urban Design Guidelines was held on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

The purpose of the Open House was for the public to discuss and review the Streetscape Plan for Main Street from Water Street to Shade Street and identify priorities for the associated Urban Design Guidelines. Phase 1 of the Streetscaping Plan (from Water Street to Ainslie Street) will be constructed this year.
