Accessibility Information and Inclusion Services
On this website you are able to access a variety of information concerning accessibility, planning, programs and services.
The City of Cambridge is committed to providing quality service that is accessible to all persons. City Council approved the Accessible Customer Service Policy in February 2009.
In an effort to break down barriers in the built environment, Cambridge has adopted the City of London's Facility Accessibility Design Standards. This building standard goes beyond existing regulations and is applied to all new buildings and renovations owned, operated or leased by the municipality. These standards have been adopted - or adapted - by more than 50 municipalities and organizations in Canada and the United States.
The City of Cambridge Accessibility Plan is developed annually in partnership with senior city staff, the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) and the public at large.
New standards impact private sector business
The Ontario Government is introducing accessibility standards with the goal of making our province more accessible by 2025. The Accessibility Standards for Customer Service became law in 2008. The Information and Communication Standard, the Employment Standard and the Transportation Stanrdard all became law in July 2011 under the Integrated Accessibility Regulation. The Built Environment Standard is under development. These standards apply to all private and public sector organizations in Ontario. Compliance deadlines will be phased in over the next 5 to 10 years. You will find an overview of the status of the five standards on our website.
Training required for City suppliers of goods & services
Businesses and individuals that the City of Cambridge has contracted to provide goods or services to customers must ensure that their employees are trained on providing accessible customer service.
Training outlines and information is available at AccessON.ca
