Rudolph Boost Heritage Award
The Rudolph Boost Heritage Award is designed to recognize an individual or group which has made a significant contribution to the greater awareness or conservation of a part of the Heritage of Cambridge and its founding communities. The recipient of the Rudolph Boost Heritage Award is selected annually by a committee consisting of members of the Cambridge Archives Board, Cambridge Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee, and the Boost family. The committee selects a recipient from nominees whose work reflects one or more of the following:
- original research
- donations to the City of Cambridge Archives
- the creation of classroom studies dealing with local history
- the preservation of historical landmarks either natural or built
- the development of a special Heritage project
The award is sponsored by the Boost family in memory of Rudolph Boost.
Previous recipients were:
Rod Deacon who was recognized for his work in fostering an awareness and an appreciation of the natural heritage of the Grand River watershed.
Marg Cockburn who was recognized for her work in assistance in preserving the paper heritage of our community through her work with the City of Cambridge Archives.
Ray Martin who was recognized for his significant contribution to a greater awareness of our community through his reporting on heritage issues and his work on the Heritage Cambridge Walking and Driving Tours.
Paul Langan who was recognized for his work in expanding local history knowledge through numerous publications including Hespeler's Hidden Secret: The Coombe Orphanage, 1905-1947 and The Miracle of Preston: The Story of the Preston Springs Hotel.
Ross Anderson a retired Architect who dedicated his professional career and now his retirement to the preservation of heritage buildings. He has worked tirelessly to design a Local Heritage Property Record, a coherent system for recording in detail, significant information about any historic building.
Gerry Love who was recognized primarily for his research into the local veterans for whom streets in Cambridge have been named and for assisting in the development of the Archives’ local veterans’ database project that has now seen the names of approximately 6,000 veterans identified and entered into the database. What started out as a relatively small individual study has grown into a significant project to honour Cambridge’s war veterans.
While the Rudolph Boost Heritage Award is presented annually in April, nominations will be accepted any time during the year. It is strongly recommended that all nominations be supported by background information on the achievements of the nominee. The nomination form and supporting documentation should be mailed to the address found on the nomination form or brought in person to the City of Cambridge Archives, 2nd Floor, 46 Dickson St. Because supporting documentation should accompany the completed nomination form, e-mailed nomination forms will not be accepted.
